The nice folks at Austinist have published a feature profiling Austin’s Kiyanna Project, the online video series I joined late last year. My pal Manny Benavides, who co-created Kiyanna Project, was quoted in the piece explaining part of what makes the project special:
At the crux of the project is what makes Kiyanna different – the story. Benavides explains, “From the very beginning, the story element was vital to this project. We wanted to get a sense of the artist’s personality and discover a little more about the song itself.” The group is passionate about the endeavor and seeks to show off more than just the band’s music through the different locations and story-telling aspect. They are also open to more artists, venues, and volunteer staff, so be sure to get in touch if you’re intrigued by the idea.
I was excited when Manny brought me on to do PR for Kiyanna Project, and I’m looking forward to watching and writing about their upcoming video sessions. Stay tuned.
Hello, people! Just wanted to post a quick note to say thanks to all the folks who donated to help Peepers. We raised enough money to pay for his initial surgery, and we really appreciate all the contributions we received over the past several days. Abscess treatment is expensive, and we could not have started Peepers on the road to recovery without your help. So thanks again.
Peeps is doing better after his surgery. The first few days post-operation were a little nerve-wracking, as our lil’ bun wasn’t eating, and we could tell he was in pain. We’ve been feeding him with a syringe and administering several medications to kill the abscess infection and reduce his pain, and he does not like that. At all. But I’m glad to report that Peepers is already bouncing back. He started eating and binkying a little last night, and he’s acting more cooperative when medicine time comes around. He has a few more procedures ahead of him, but we have faith that he’ll bounce back to his ol’ active self in no time. We’ll keep ya posted.
This is Peepers:

Peepers is a good bunny. No, Peepers is a great bunny! We’ve had him for almost two years, and he’s brought us countless hours of joy. We feel blessed to have this lil’ fuzzball rampaging through our lives, and we want to continue hanging out with him for years to come. That’s why I’m writing this — Peepers has been a little sick lately, and we need your help to heal him. He developed an abscess on the lower part of his jaw (sadly, a common malady in house rabbits). According to the vet, Peepers might have to undergo two surgeries to remove it. If we don’t remove the abscess, he won’t be able to eat, and he could die. (Oh no!)
Peepers already underwent one surgery last week to drain the abscess. He did great, and he took all the scary poking and prodding like a champ. But Peeps has to undergo a few more procedures to remove the abscess completely and get healthy again. We’re asking you, friends, pals, and fellow bunny lovers, to please consider donating anything you can to help us heal Peepers. All the funds raised from this page will be designated solely for Peepers treatment: Surgery, meds, various vet bills.

East Austin: It’s not just for crime scenes anymore! OK, that’s a little unfair, but I couldn’t resist …
Mrs. Moody and I drove down to East Austin this weekend and enjoyed a lovely brunch at Blue Dahlia Bistro. After the eats, we walked and drove around the neighborhood, taking in the sights, including that great Johnny Cash graffiti art piece at the top of this post. (I snapped that pic in front of the Longbranch Inn.) I can’t say I’ve spent a lot of time in East Austin, but whenever I make it to that part of town, I’m always impressed by all the great restaurants, cafes, shops, and artwork that line the streets. I look forward to exploring everything the area has to offer now that I’m a full time Austinite. Do you have a favorite place to hang in East Austin? Lemme know.

I’m only halfway through this book, and all I can say is … HOYVIN-GLAVIN!
Fanboys screenwriter and Austinite @erniecline‘s first novel, Ready Player One, goes on sale Aug. 16. I suggest gobblin’ it up as soon as possible. I’ll write more about it once I’m done reading. Station!
Update: Check out the official book cover after the jump:

Seriously, it’s not. Just ignore the guy’s mustache and the stupid Casio beat at the end, and you’ll see. It’s a lovely, earnest pop music performance by Austin’s The Sour Notes. A little twee, yes, but genuinely lovely.
My pal Manny has a hand in making these videos for Kiyanna Project, also an Austin thing. They’re on the Tweeter too. Do support.
